Monogram Cookies for As

Sunday
May 31,2009

AS is one of my very hip, chic neighbour and we get on really swell. Unfortunately for us, she moved to a better, bigger place a few years back and now she’s moved to another bigger, better place outside of Bukit Jelutong. Sigh!

But we get on swell still.

So, when she sent me a distress sms on tuesday night asking for 100 pieces of wedding monogram cookies, I found it very hard to decline. Fortunately for me, Nadia’s 60 pieces of wedding cookies were all ready and I said yes, eventually.

So, here they are.

One little snag though. She wanted blue. I was being curious and I started mixing Royal Blue with Sky Blue and although I thought the blue looked bright and chirpy, it kinda looked a little turquise. Shucks! I hope As wouldn’t kill me. *ampun*

Monogram in little dots all around.

Monogram in in a frame with a Cornflower blue hearts at the side.

All of them little delights in a box.

  • Milk Bottles for Shaquill

    Sunday
    May 31,2009
Farida requested these for her SHAQUILL’s 2nd birthday. All 100 of them bottles.

I was very intrigued with the way she spelled SHAQUILL. Unique and sure is interesting.

She wanted these in purple, green and blue. I had a bit of issue with the placing of the name. So, they started out like these.

Plain MILK BOTTLES. While I thought how best to write SHAQUILL.

Then, I received a lightbulb moment and decided to write SHAQUILL sideways in whimsical placed characters and I guess they did work, I guess. *beams*

Bottles in purple and blue (below)

To Farida, thanks so much and hope the party went swell!

  • Nadia’s Wedding Cookies

    Sunday
    May 31,2009

These were for a cousin’s wedding, I was told.

I really hope that the wedding went well. Nadia wanted these in a transparent box for hantaran. I got the box, but I’m not sure I have such flair in arranging hantaran, so I stacked them up, with bubble wraps to protect against bumps and humps.

    Hehe.

Nadia did not specifically defined a colour theme, so I figured blue and pink and white and orange would be apt.

    Here goes.

Butterflies. I actually damaged 2 of these butterflies as I scraped them against the drying rack while I was arranging the tray. So, I compensated with 2 more flowers. Yikes! This is the exact reason why I always have 1 or 2 spare cookies per design. Just in case, eh?

2.5″ daisies in white base with sugarpaste tiny sprays of flowers and three dots.

    Ciao

    It’s back, folks

I will be doing another Cookie Class at CakeConnection on Saturday the 13th June 2009.

It’s slated at 10:00 to 12:30pm and although I’ve earlier agreed to have the classes once every 2 months (due to a lot of cookie appointments), apparently there’s been quite a lot of queries on these classes ever since CakeConnection was featured in the Star recently.

    Anyhow. It’s Baby Shower theme!

Yay! I’ve collected quite a hefty collection of baby cutters and I’m eager to do this theme. I’m thinking milk bottles, rattles, maybe one-sies, bibs 9from round cutters) anf of course prams!

    See you there!
earlier has rescheduled the cookies classes that I conduct to once every 2 months to accomodate for bigger demand as we

  • Sofea’s 8th Birthday

    Tuesday
    May 12,2009

These flowers and balls cookies were ordered by Famy for her Sofea’s 8th birthday party at school tomorrow.

Her birthday is today but since today is the last day of the PKSR 1, she didn’t think it’s appropriate.

Considering how adverse boys would be to flowers, I suggested that we do balls for the boys to save some air muka for the boys. Tak macho ler. I love the orange. Orange is my new pink from now on. Heh!

Anyhow. Hope Sofea has a great one tomorrow.

    Images from DarlingCandy

DarlingCandy who ordered my cookies for her sister’s wedding posted an entry in her blogspot. And I found out that she’s a great digital scrapbooker. Wow! I wanted to try my hands at that. Hmm need to make more hours in a day for that. How now brown cow?

I feel so unworthy at the moment and seeing the cookies all dressed up digitally, made me just swooned. *kembang semangkuk*

    *perasan*

Thanks DarlingCandy. I learned a lot from making these and it was so much fun too. What a perfect ending for the cookies. In tummies instead of on a mantelpiece. They are after all, cookies!

These were requested by MrGart’s colleague at Putrajaya. He’s just transferred into this office and I barely know his colleague, so pardon me, if I cannot remember who ordered this.

    Anyhow.

I hope that the wedding goes well for I and R.

  • Happy Birthday Wan Nur Annissa

    Sunday
    Apr 12,2009

Gartred (my twin, since I’m Gartblue) has been or rather her daughter, Nisa has been pestering me for cookies for her birthday.

So, I finally succumbed to the pressure since last weekend was rather light, in terms of cookie load.

Nisa wanted to have a class party for her birthday. so I figured, she’d love these dresses for her girlfriends.

And more girlfriends’ stuff. Hearts with her name.

And since Gartred had no definite designs, I thought I’d do some rounds and decorated them rather masculinely, considering there would be boys around and dresses and hearts aren’t exactly macho stuff to be strutting along. :)

It turned out that I so so love these rounds with her name and age, bordered with a bunch of dots. Simple, but effective. I like!

    Anyway, Happy Belated Birthday, Nisa!

  • Cookies Class at Cake Connection

    Sunday
    Apr 5,2009

I’ve been conducting a Fun With Cookies classes (either adults or children) at Cake Connection since November 2008. It gets particularly fun when we have a theme like Valentine’s or Animals cos I go all out to think about the designs and the cutters and what nots.

Due to Cake Connection‘s streamlining of their classes schedule, I will now conduct a Cookies Class every other month instead of monthly now. So, I can breathe a little easier. The classes are fun, seriously. But the preparation is a lot too.

Anyhow. These pictures are from my Fun with Cookies class the Saturday before last i.e. 28th March 2009.

I made 6 cookies per student with extras, of course for breakages and accidents *opps* during class. Since there were only ladies this time around, I made a WEDDING DRESS, BUTTERFLY, HEART, FLOWER, ROUND (for either spider web, baby bib or anything a round cookie can be) and CUPCAKE (this I just bought but never tried yet).

So, enjoy these slightly blurry pictures. I forgot my camera (it’s in the other handbag. Don’t smirk yourself. I’m sure you’ve used up this excuse too. Hahahah)

Wedding Dress in simple dots designs. This was actually my demo cookie.

This turned out to be a lot of fun. Especially with the sprinkles on top of the cupcake. Must remember to use the cutter for my next children’s class. Yikes!

Although my cookies are typically decorated with swirls and dots on top of the flooded cookies, in classes, I aim to teach the students a more basic way to decorate cookies. It’s a wet-on-wet technique. This flower was made by flooding the whole cookie with white icing. Then for the petals, I used a scroll of wet pink icing and used a toothpick to swirl it for that marbled look.

For the middle part, I dropped dots of pink, blue, yellow and purple wet icing and again, used my best friend, the TOOTHPICK to just swirl it around. Pretty!

    Once of my student’s creations.

    Another plateful of cookies.

    The students.

Catherine busy at work with Nancy (co-owner of CakeConnection) admiring. Nancy having watched my for many months doing the class, decided to join the class too and made her own cookies. Hahaha. I hope she had fun.

But the best part of the class was the eating of the cookies, freshly baked from the oven when we do the demo for the cookies. Ahhh!

Anyhow. Next class will be in May 2009. Once the schedule is out, I’ll holler. In the meantime check out the fun and practical classes at CakeConnection.

  • Baby Shower? Cukur Jambul ?

    Monday
    Mar 30,2009

These are perfect for baby showers or the more popular cukur jambul ceremonies for newborns, particularly the Malays. Cukur jambul ceremonies are typically done on the 7th day a precious child is born.

These are a variety of tiered wedding cake cookies I did.

I meant to use violet flowers for these, but I forgot and stuck of it the daisies. A little odd, I know! *head hung*

  • Funky Girly Cookies

    Monday
    Mar 30,2009

Amidst the chaotic sick hour during the weekend, I succumbed to Nadia DEMC’s request for some sample cookies.

Here they are babe. These are some of the fun, funky ones I love.

    I Heart You, in Pink.

    A Cluster of Flowers

    A cluster of hearts.
    A pair of pink shoes.

These are pretty small, and they’re quite tedious to do so. But they look adorable.

A Pink Handbag with a Violet Flower as clasp.

By far my favourite. I am so gonna make so many more of the violet flower I learnt in the Wilton class last week. It looks so exquisite and just adorable.

  • Selamat Bertunang Hazel

    Wednesday
    Mar 25,2009

Congratulations to Hazel & Adzim on getting engaged-not-yet-hitched last Saturday, the 21st March 2009. Finally, eh?

I’m just so happy for you and sorry for not being able to attend the ceremony. I’m sure it was beautiful and you, a bright shiny beacon in a sea of happiness. *did I just write that?”

    Anyhow.

If you’re wondering if I have wonderful, steady hands to pipe the As and the Hs consistently, 100 times. No.

I must have piped about 200 of these a few days earlier, extras in cae of breakages.

So here. Hazel wanted a hundred of these. And I had tremendous fun making these. The only snag is that, I used a different royal icing recipe and some of the cookies were tainted.
    *head hung in shame*

So, Hazel enjoyed a huge, huge discount for that. *wink*

  • Birthday Cookies For Adam

    Sunday
    Mar 1,2009

Nadia from D-EMC requested for these for her son’s Adam 6th birthday. She didn’t specify any designs except that she wanted the name Adam and 6 on the cookies for his party.

So, here they are. 15 of these half-car on a round cookie and 15 of these number six-es with dots. I sure hope Nadia and Adam like them.

    Happy 6th Birthday Adam

    Friday
    Feb 27,2009

Nadia requested these for her Adam’s 6th Birthday.

She gave me a free hand in designing the cookies with 2 conditions. Must have the word “Adam is 6″ on them.

So, I did 25 of these funky round cookies with the image of a car zooming past with colours I thought would befit a boy’s imagination.

And I made 25 cookies with the shape of number SIX. I used the techniques of swirling to achieve these effects.

  • Happy 11th Birthday Aliya!

    Saturday
    Jan 10,2009

    Aliya turned 11 yesterday, 9th January 2009.

She’s ecstatic to reach this age. I’m actually aghast to realise that I have a daughter who is 11 years old. Never mind that she’s about 1 cm shorter than me and will easily overshoot me in about a week. Never mind that she can now wear my shoes and is smirking all the time too.

    Gold Tiered Cake Cookies

    Sunday
    Jan 4,2009

The trio for the Wedding Hantaran Tiered Cake and the accompanying Monogram Wedding Favors for the guests in the shapes of squares and hearts.

I had tremendous fun making these and I really really love its gold colours. Thanks for CakeConnection who stocks Aztec Gold Lustre Gold. Otherwise my gold would be a dull rusty colour.

Selamat Pengantin Baru Shahliza (eh, betul ke Rina, I was writing the initials, I forgot what theu stand for!) & Najib.

    Gold Themed Wedding Cookies

    Saturday
    Dec 27,2008

These were ordered by Rina for her sister’s wedding. The tiered cakes were for HANTARAN and the monogram hearts and squares were for FAVORS for the guests.

I used Aztec Gold lustre dust on the cookies to achieve the gold effect. And I so love the effect this gave. But I thought the gold streaked a bit. Hmm must research how not to have it smeared on me the next time.

Anyhow. I love these so much and thanks Rina, I had tremendous fun doing these.

  • Flowers For Hantaran

    Wednesday
    Nov 26,2008

Nina from Puchong (eh, betul ke?) called my twin to order. These were very late orders, but I obliged anyways.

These were done for a hantaran for a wedding. I didn’t use royal icing but instead used fondant with fondant accents in terms of sprays of flowers.

These were so sweet, even I was sold. Haha.

  • Icing In My Tudung

    Sunday
    Nov 23,2008

You, you, you, you and you! *hugs you all*

Thanks for your kind words and moral support for me to step out in another different realm. I truly appreciate your words and thank you for believing in me, even when I’m so unsure sometimes.

    *kesat air mata and shhhrroooooooot!*

So. Saturday came. Me slightly jittery. Was up till midnight the night before baking the cookies for the class. Each student was to have 6 cookies to decorate upon and take home to parade. I made regular sized floppy-eared bunny, butterfly, dinosaur, teddy bear and duckling. Then I made a swarm of bees and a school of little fishes.

Met the 10 year olds and 11year olds. Kimberley’s the youngest at 8 and very very expressive. She exclaimed loudly at a juncture that “I know how to make rubber!”. Hmm. The only boy in class, Haziq was a smart kid who’s pretty vocal too.

Anyhow, the making of the cookies went smoothly, though a little boring for them. It got significantly livelier when they were using the cookie cutters to cut them. THe incidents of the dolphins who lost its tails got them all laughing in cackles.

The class got even more excited once they have piping bags of icing in their hands and they excitedly went about squeezing icings on their dinosaurs and butterflies and throwing sprinkles and dragees. While munching on some of the cookies. I felt very comfortable by then, even relaxed. They were doing good stuff. Although initially, piping icing was pretty hard on small hands, but they managed it well.

Things got rowdier when the parents turned up and they were even more excited that their kids. Understandably, I guess.

All in all. I think the class went well. Shyamala was a real big help, in the kitchen as well as in her eye contact with me on how to move forward and all.

But I blinking FORGOT to bring my camera. So, am begging Shyamala for pictures of yesterday. You should see the cookies the kids made. Some of them were really good. Sarah who’s pretty slim has the most amazing control of the bag and her creations were amazing for a beginner.

I felt such pride to see the results.

I can definitely do this again. *especially after looking at the cheque. Hehehe*

    Teaching Kids To Bake ?

    Wednesday
    Nov 19,2008

You’ve got to be kidding me? I heard that, MOSH!

    Anyways.

For the benefit of all 9 of my blog readers, I’ve been enlisted by CakeConnection which is located at Jaya One, PJ to teach their Cookies classes. I actually love the place. It has lots and lots of cookie cutters and they were very acoomodating to get me the cutters I so desire. Shyamala and Nancy are just great women and great bakers too. I went there once to be greeted by the sweet smell of orange butter cakes for their class. Came home desperate to make one but fell asleep thinking of smelling it. Heh!

This Sunday is a 2.5 hours class where I’ll be guiding 8 kids to bake sugar cookies, make royal icing for pipinga nd for flooding, color them, and techniques to decorate them cookies. The theme is Animals. I’m still figuring out which animals to choose and how to decorate them.

Next Saturday, I have 8 adults and I’ll do the same class, more details I would imagine and more elaborate techniques, I should say.

    Now.

I am nervous. I’ve never taught a bunch of people before. Let alone, this is about baking, it’s not about coal or gas or electricity where I think I know my stuff. I am beyond nervous here. Whatever were they thinking when the owner called me up and asked if I could do this. And I said, YES? Whatever was I thinking?

    *takes deep breath*

    Hokeh!

I think I can do this. I know I can. I hink I’ll be great. Like what Day loves to say. Sharing is caring. I love to bake the cookies and I love decorating them more. So, what better way to spread the joy of making them ?

p/s I hope the kids would like me. And I so hope the adults would find me alright. Now, which tudung to wear? Pink, I think. Must appear hip. Must appear trendy, retro, but stylo. Must look slightly whimsical too. Decorators should appear whimsical. No?
